The United Nations selects the Kingdom as a leading global model in water resources management
Riyadh, 11 Ramadan 1446 AH (March 11, 2025) SPA - The United Nations Water Committee (UN-Water) has selected the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a leading global model in achieving the Integrated Water Resources Management indicator 6.5.1 within Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6), in recognition of the Kingdom's progress in this field. This came during a preparatory workshop to study the Kingdom's successful experience in accelerating the achievement of integrated water resources management within SDG 6. The workshop was inaugurated by the Deputy Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture for Water, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Shaibani, at the Ministry's headquarters in Riyadh, with the participation of 40 representatives from various stakeholders, including the government sector, relevant international organizations, civil society, academia, and the private sector. Dr. Al-Shaibani explained that this selection is an international acknowledgment of the progress made by the Kingdom in this regard, in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and the National Water Strategy 2030, particularly in the field of integrated water resources management. The United Nations Committee on Water Resources is working on preparing this success case study to document the Kingdom's experience and share it with other countries, to benefit from the Saudi approach to water resources management, and to encourage continued efforts globally to achieve the sixth goal.
